Check for system file errors:
Open the Command Prompt from the Start menu. Note that you should right-click the Command Prompt and run it as an administrator. Now type this exactly and press Enter: sfc /scannow
Windows will check for system file errors and will repair if found.
Restart update related services:
In the Run box, type services.msc and press Enter. (Note: You can bring out the Run box by pressing the Windows key + R together.) Now, in the services list, find Windows Update. Right click on it and go to Properties. Here, in the Startup type, choose Automatic. Then click Start under the Service status. Click on ok to finish.
Next, do same as above for Cryptographic Service and Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
Now restart your computer and check if the problem is solved.
Restart services using Command Prompt:
As in step 1, start Command Prompt in administrator mode. Now, copy the following commands, paste them in the Command line one by one (in the sequence shown here) and press Enter each time after a command is pasted:
net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver
After each of this command has been executed, restart your PC.
